What Are Radical Truths?

I am the most impatient person I know, and I am constantly having to start over. I dreamed that I would curse less, speak softly, and have long, wavy yoga hair. I was trying to fit into a spiritual mold that wouldn’t work because that’s not who I am. What I did learn was that integrating my life experience into my teachings guided me toward a deeper acceptance of who I was without needing to pretend to be someone I’m not. I couldn’t change who I was, or where I came from, but I could change what I believed about myself and the world. I could be more open to making mistakes, and I could learn how to discern what served my highest good and the highest vision of my life. Each of us has a unique story and value, and each of us is radically loved. Love is the most powerful thing in the Universe. Its absence can drive us apart. It’s something that we do. Our initial introduction to love shapes our view of the entire world. Our lives are meant to prime us and teach us to love and to celebrate our unique journeys, despite all the grit.

Broken Down

Broken Down

It’s about how our thought patterns and impressions shape our beliefs, fuel our dreams, and pave the way for our spiritual practice. Most of us are fortunate enough that we can make the creative choice to live a radically loved life. When I was able to get to the truth of what I felt, it gave way to my healing, and it helped me forge ahead. For me, these truths feel true and right. I hope they’ll offer you the same comfort and respite in moments of doubt and inspire you to write your own. We are what we do every day. How does this apply to love? If we practice feeling radically loved to the best of our ability, we can ultimately get to a place where we can feel it anytime, anyplace. It takes practice because life is life. Practice gives you the ability to return to the core of who you are, to be at home within yourself, to accept yourself fully as you are. It helps you connect to the wisdom and happiness that exists in the part of you that has been and always will be unstuck. You’ll connect with the deepest parts of yourself. When I was growing up, writing was the only way I could express my true feelings, and I learned that putting them into words made me feel better.

The Power Of One

Over the school year, our teacher gave the class writing prompts and had us fill in the blanks. We got prompts like If I had a dream home it would be . . and If I had three wishes . Ever since that young age, I’ve used journaling to establish order in my chaos. Journaling helps me create a sense of connection to something bigger, something that feels grounded on this earth. When I write things down, it no longer feels like my thoughts and feelings are just random ideas floating in the ether. Journaling makes them feel real and validated. It’s a way of engaging with my inner strength. You might not be where you want to be or where you think you should be, but you are in this moment in time, nonetheless. This has always been my biggest rub with the world of spirituality. They’ve been raised to believe that a system is designed to keep them from thriving, and in some cases they are right.

A Taste of Honey

We are all different, we have different needs, but at our core, we all know that to change something, we need to change first. Change is scary, but it is the only constant you can count on. Mind, Body, and Spirit. To understand ourselves, we must first understand where we come from and how our mind has been shaped. We must understand that our body is the way to move through our feelings. What you feel, you can heal. By connecting to our body, we recognize a certain level of wisdom that lives within us. We then connect to our spirit, or whatever higher power you understand. We acknowledge that spirit is the essence that is you, completely bound and connected to everything living and breathing. Yoga means union, the unification of mind, body, and spirit align. The root, yuj, means to join or yoke. Yoga is the study of paradoxes, how one thing can exist at the same time as the other, like the yin and yang. There’s a little yin in the yang and yang in the yin. When I discovered this system and learned about creating a deep sense of connection and balance, everything in my life became clear. Everything touches everything. It’s about balancing the whole. The balance I refer to here isn’t about holding two things equally. Water can adapt to any situation. To see things differently, to expand beyond our limitations. Life makes no sense, but you can still find meaning if you try. A shark in a fish tank grows up to eight inches, but in the ocean, it will grow to eight feet or more. The shark will never outgrow its environment, and the same is true about you. Our environment has a direct impact on how we grow and develop. What we believe, what we achieve, and how we go about achieving it are all dependent on what we’ve been exposed to. I always knew I would be a product of my environment. I just never imagined I would do anything about it. So, what’s radical love got to do with it? Radical love requires a courage unlike any other. It calls for us to believe in and become devoted to something that keeps us in this world. Among the many reasons we practice yoga, mindfulness, and meditation is to cultivate more discernment and to understand ourselves, our choices, and others on a deeper level within.
