I wish I had known then what I know now. I was trying to control my body. And eating normally took effort. Of course, I had a couple of relapses, at a particularly stressful time in my life. Eventually, I started therapy with a clinical psychologist which made an enormous difference. Because my body is in balance, I want to nourish it more. Funnily enough, it wasn’t my own history with eating that led me to study nutrition, although I’m sure that played a role. It’s certainly a reason why I feel addressing the underlying imbalances in your body is so critical. Otherwise, eating healthily remains a permanent struggle. Not a great way to live! From personal experience, as well as success stories of clients, I can tell you that it really is possible. And when you free yourself of your struggle with food, when you feel so much better in yourself, you change your whole life. It becomes so much easier to be the you that you want to be.
This Could Be The One
To fully express yourself and be who you truly are in the world. At least, not for many people and not long term. Sometimes you may feel you are doing everything right, and still that weight doesn’t shift. But what if you could reduce or eliminate your cravings? What if you could change the biochemical messages that are telling your body to hang onto fat or to store it around your belly? More shockingly, at least a third of dieters end up heavier than when they started.1 This is hardly surprising! And I saw my client, under supervision, in a training clinic. She was cheerful, bubbly, excited about working together. She hadn’t followed the plan we carefully put together. Even worse, making changes to her diet had blown away the controls she had in place that used to restrict her overeating. As it was a training clinic, I wasn’t able to see her again, so I couldn’t stay involved. There was nothing more I could do. But I couldn’t let it go. I couldn’t shake the frustration of knowing I’d made it worse. One Of Those Days
How could I have helped my client eat less when her drive to overeat was so powerful? If you crave food, how can you be steered to consume less of it? Nor did my supervisors. This ultimately led to a decade of research. The internal messages in her body were telling her to eat. Even when she wasn’t hungry. A number of other biochemical imbalances were exacerbating her cravings, causing her inability to stop eating when she’d had enough. And who it is not for! It doesn’t prescribe a preset diet plan to follow. To include the psychological angle, I teamed up with a psychotherapist and we ran courses together for a couple of years, helping clients make dietary and lifestyle changes. These changes brought their bodies into balance, reduced or eliminated their cravings and set up the conditions for lasting weight loss. People were already overloaded, so I needed to simplify my process. Whilst the psychological side was useful, not everyone needed it. I restructured my course, splitting it in two. Firstly, I ran an online mini course you could do on your own, to discover which imbalances in your body are blocking your weight loss. No Matter How Stuck You Feel
One client told me that discovering how these imbalances were triggering her to overeat and make poor food choices had lifted away the shame she felt about the way she ate, finally empowering her to make changes. The second course ran three months, for a group. I loved this course. It was such an honour to go through this process with them, seeing them make changes and shift the way they ate. Some were intolerant to certain foods. But at the end of the course, not one person thought of reverting to their old way of eating. For example, Kate had struggled with food for years. Then she tried this course. Over the next three months, her cravings decreased by a whopping 57 percent and her overeating/urge to eat more decreased by 43 percent. Before, even when she was not hungry, she ate, powerless to resist. Her resistance to this impulse increased by 57 percent. As I settled into the course, I became more focused on how I needed to support my body healthfully, and weight loss took a back seat for the time being . Feeling much better about where I am in my relationship to food’. In Part 1, you will discover how different imbalances in your body can block your weight loss. You might ask, how is this possible? My body can block my weight loss regardless of what I eat? They may even make you extract more calories than someone else does from the exact same food or burn less fat. Your friend and you each eat similarly. Your friend doesn’t gain weight. Your stomach is bulging over your jeans. The point is to tailor these changes to target the specific imbalances in your body. They are also flexible enough to cater to your individual dietary preferences and requirements. There may also be a psychological component to your eating. It has been said, ‘All thoughts, feeling and behavior ultimately have a biological cause. However, if you have a lot of struggles with emotional eating, you may need additional psychological support. But addressing the underlying imbalances in your body will help. When you bring the focus onto health and rebalancing your body, this gets you out of the negative cycle many people experience around weight loss and their relationship with food. Let me restate that. I promise that this process, if followed, will lessen your desire to overeat. You will find it easier to make better food choice. No more having to rely on willpower! This process will make weight loss so much simpler, and it will get you off the diet treadmill. You don’t have to get it perfect all the time, but just to keep moving in the right direction.
